So, uh. I was reading through movie synopses and reviews at the local trusted place. One of the new releases involves a ninja named Raizo who wants to leave the way of living of his ninja clan.
Now where have I heard of a very similar premise before? |

I work from afternoon to late night. I take an hour-long commute home, and arrive home 11-ish. The Philippine nighttime bus (or jeepney) populace is interesting, to say the least. I've shared seats with 'em all. Rich and poor, male and female (or LGBT), light-skinned and dark-skinned. I've seen pimps and their wards* ride.
I've seen a fight or two break out as well. The cuts were just like what I usually see in boxing and MMA - only up close and personal this time. I recall at least one instance where the driver didn't like one passenger (probably drunk or high), and told him to get the hell off his ride.
*Because obviously, these ladies only wore ridiculously short and skimpy clothing because it's hot outside. Never mind that they only travel late at night. Oh no sir.
***
Last night, there was this obviously drunk guy who entered the jeepney. He started talking loudly into his phone. Apparently, he and his wife had a falling out, and heck... I think he was planning to cheat on her because he was calling and talking dirty to other broads for the whole trip. He totally didn't care how the other passengers reacted, or if they were disturbed by what he did. Probably too drunk too care. Just wow.
***
Oh and the beggars are still there, even late a night. A word to my Filipino friends if I may. Do not, I repeat, do not give them anything anymore. The kids use the money to buy glue for substance abuse. The adults use it to gamble. Both age groups report to pimps of sorts and some of their "earnings" go there. What you've heard about crime rackets is true. I've seen it... they gather late at night when they think no-one is watching. The whole poor thing is a front.
Worse, there were times where I offered food and the like since I really had no money, but these panhandlers got angry at me and demanded money instead. It was the most F'd up thing I've ever experienced in my whole life.
If you really care for the less privileged, give to charity, or your favorite foundation. Or call the police to round up these people (or more importantly, nab their "bosses" - I think these guys pay off cops and other officials though, so that may or may not work). |

This country has way too many kibitzers and gossipers. In the native tongue, usisero at chismoso. Any kind of commotion or accident will prove that. So many people onlooking, but not enough people actually doing and helping.
Word of mouth travels freakishly fast in small towns.
***
Cellphones have spoiled people. So I walked into the restroom one day, and this guy was multitasking while occupying a urinal slot. Yes. One hand answering the call, and another hand on the ding-a-ling-a-ling. Surely, answering the phone call could have waited.

I would post more, but I think I've writer's blog as far as non-Twitter-sized blog entries go. :( In the meantime, watch the TVC US trailer. It's awesome. |

Another challenging week. I applied for a licensure exam (with the aid of a malware-plagued government site), survived some aches and pains here and there, and had a blast at work. The big crunch and greater things are yet to come.
Anywho, I'm tired and I'm still trying to gather my thoughts. What I really wanted to do is to post this:
Just look at those hitboxes, or lack thereof. Wow. It makes me sad, actually... for SVC. They had time to look at their old hitboxes and realize they did atrociously in the past, but they never went about doing so.
They did bring back the huge-sprite look with KOF XII. Yay for that, I guess. |

The funniest thing happened at the pantry the other day. The TV was on and a chick flick (or rom-com as it were) starring Hugh Grant and some other guys was playing.
The looks on people's faces were priceless. The women laughed really loudly at the scenes or were otherwise going "awwwww" at the characters. The men (those who paid attention anyway) stared blankly at the TV, just stopping short of making "uhhhhhhh" expressions.
It was great. It was funny, yet profound. I live for moments like these - seeing these little things in action. The whole chick flick deal is one of the great mysteries of the universe, and yet, it really needs no explanation. One just has to accept that the two groups of people will react in different ways.
I wonder what tomorrow will reveal. |

Well, it doesn't bother me. I can still access what I want, and hopefully LJ crossposting is still good. As long as those two things are available to me, they can tweak it all they want.
Anyway, this is a week overdue. I put it on a notepad file and forgot it until the new Multiply layout reminded me of it.

June 4
Another rainy day at the office. The roads to work have been flooding lately. Thankfully the strong rain has weakened to just a modest drizzle, now.
The area just in front of the office is a beautiful sight. The rain is pouring and the sky is an unbroken sheet of gray. In spite of the rain, the traffic on the road continues as usual. It's the Santa Rosa-to-Tagaytay highway, so the cars, vans, and even trucks range from moderately fast to Vin Diesel movie-fast.
It's beautiful and serene. It's like watching a screen saver. But it's not. It's much more random. It's somehow natural and alive. It's refreshing.
I love the little things. I count them as blessings. |

Man. It's supposed to be the dry season here, but lately it's been raining and even flooding. Makes me wonder if I should pay a little more attention to Mr. Gore's cause.
I know that it's important to keep a watch on the environment and go green. What constitutes the negative, "tree-hugging" side of this trend, again? I can only imagine it has something to do with how short-sighted, preachy, and dangerous (see: Greenpeace property destruction and vandalism antics) some groups are? |

| thoughts and musings, March 18th |
[Mar. 18th, 2009|10:06 am] |
I've been waiting for this moment all my life it's my destineeeeeeeee ...Sorry, where was I? *** Wow, time flies. The first quarter of the year is about to end. "Summer" (or "school's out" in Filipino terms at least) is definitely here. *** Well, I suppose I'm feeling a little down today. A bunch of mishaps here and there this past work week. I suppose it's just the acceptable amount of stress, and nothing to serious. That is, until I my wanders and enters unhappy childhood/teen category. Why can't I can let go of the small things? For me, it's the little details that stick to my mind the most. I guess I really am schizo at times. (or melancholy and sanguine... "melsan", as my old math teacher put it). I suppose my friend is right. The best that I can do when the HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO MEEEEH?! strikes is to just ride with it, blog about it, then laugh at it afterwards. Nothing good could possibly come out of taking it out on someone or something, or doing important things or making decisions while in this state. Choose to be happy. Choose the healthy, optimistic route. *** So many things I still want to do to change and improve myself this year. Quite a few things to rediscover, now that I'm out of college too. (Yeah! Just one year after the fact, and my mind and body still can't believe it.) I definitely want to work on my esteem and to-be-a-better-people-person issues. Should I take up drawing and/or writing again? How does one break out of disenchantment and a creative slump? Is there still an audience here? Or are people only here to look at the occasional funny picture or video? But I might as well end my post with this, to fill the quota! "I have no idea what you're talking about. So here's..."

friend 1: "Man, Chun-Li still has those ridiculously huge legs. It's almost disproportionate. It's like where most of what she eats goes there." me: "Yeah man. Ever since 3s I think? Maybe even earlier. Drumsticks." friend 2: "Them childbearing hips. She looks like she had two kids already." friend 1: "Oh. Maybe that's why Fei Long is trying to abortion punch the females of the game." me: "Yeah, considering China's population problem and all..." all: (laughter)
So yeah, great weekend so far. Finally got to play SFIV and TVC. Former is really feel-good, and has a "it's been a long time coming" feeling to it. I love the hell out of SF2 ST, and I thought SFIV did a great job of combining old with the new. I love EX's and Ultras thus far. The other stuff (jumps, the overall feel, Focus Attacks and FADC) will take some getting used to. All in all two big thumbs up for this one. It was certainly worth the wait.
TVC... well. probably a little more getting used to. That's odd, considering I'm a blue-blooded MvC2 fan. Maybe it's just that the some of the graphics (especially the supers) and the abrupt, jarring changes in music will take a little getting used to.Love the new subsystems. Ken the Eagle and Casshern and pretty good. I'm not familiar with the other Tatsunoko characters, but I'll get to them eventually.
More stuff (game-related and otherwise) tomorrow. |

I'm still esctatic about the Cammy I got, and I did a double take.
Yes, the paint looks funny, but it's not as bad as the review (and the comment) describes it. Maybe I'm just not used to a dark skinned cammy. (You'd think that I am, given the wacky alternate colors in Mvc2, but no.) I don't know if what the comments about bootlegs is true. At any rate, what I have looks similar to what's on the box, and what's on Amazon. It looks pretty much the same as all the web pictures and descriptions, so I'm satisfied. It was a bargain (a "steal" so to speak) and a rare find, and for that I'm genuinely happy.
As shown on internet pics (and similar to the SOTA figurine), her braids come with their own little plastic bags. It's cute, as well as necessary.
Aside from the Cammys, and the Rei and Saber dolls I mentioned a while back, I've a few other things. I might as well list them. It's a simple and humble collection of what I found for characters I like. Not as good at the others, and thankfully not a "The 40 Year Old Virgin"-sized collection yet. I'm proud and happy to have found these.
*Aerith figure. I think I mentioned that one way back when I was starting this journal.
*chibi Chun, for the laughs. Bought from the same store where I got the Cammy one.
*Orihime keychain
*FFVII AC Tifa keychain
*FMA Armstrong keychain. Only dude I have in there... but that's okay, because he's awesome. I was sad that day, because a Riza one was nowhere to be found.
*Quistis figure. Not only is the skirt/leg area one plastic piece, her hair is stuck to her clothes. Boo! The whip was a pain to place, and her head was hard to clean when it got dusty.
Though I imagine it's not as hard to clean as this. Damn!
And that's one of the good things about conventions I guess. I found most of these at a reasonable price. The online prices seem more than a little ridiculous. |
