[music |Freestyle- Time Will Reveal (cover)]

Road trip went well, glad to see that the youngin cousins have internet access now (and are still Naruto followers... so there's at least a few more talking points other than school and personal life).

Man. It's supposed to be the dry season here, but lately it's been raining and even flooding. Makes me wonder if I should pay a little more attention to Mr. Gore's cause.

I know that it's important to keep a watch on the environment and go green. What constitutes the negative, "tree-hugging" side of this trend, again? I can only imagine it has something to do with how short-sighted, preachy, and dangerous (see: Greenpeace property destruction and vandalism antics) some groups are?

And it's pretty good actually. Kinda like a mix of the latest IE and Opera, but much faster, and hopefully with better stability. It's not on par with an extensions-laden Firefox yet, but it's lookin' good so far. It can only get better from here. I can't wait for future versions.

Well, after the shenanigans of last week, things have more or less normalized. I just hope I learned lessons from that one.

Anywho, the Multiply cross-post feature is acting funny, so for my LJ friends, here's my thoughts on this week:

[music |The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)]

Happy 2009, folks!

I thought I'd be ready to discuss the many things that happened during my trip, but I'm not. If you're curious (and a really trusted friend), hit me up on AIM and YM and I'll see what I can share to you. My body is tired and my brain is still mush.

Other than that, there are really no words to describe what I'm feeling, so here's a Vice hcf+K:

And if that's not enough, here's one for the more hardcore of my LJ/Multiply friends: The We Are Gay for Bison Fan Club.

Just kidding, here are some shots from my Dec 26-31 trip. )

random post-graduation/jobhunt limbo musings [Apr. 29th, 2008|11:23 pm]

I love this country strongly for some reason. Maybe it's because I've lived here the longest (the only other country I've lived in was the States, and for only a brief time during my formative years) at that. There's a lot of shit going on, but I genuinely believe that we are actually very lucky compared to many, many other nations. I also believe that many people here are really whiney. They don't do enough on their own to try and actually improve the state of things here.

That goes for protest (dare I say leftist?) groups and people in power alike.

I'm staying here, and it's not just because of a clause in the scholarship that carried me through most of college. I genuinely love these islands inspite of all the grief. Even if things get very bizarre, retarded, or just down right problematic and tumultuous. Politcally, medically, religiously, ecologically, meteorologically-- take your pick!

Like this, this, and even this.

I'm in the process of looking up jobs in the classifieds. I never quite paid attention to that part of the funnies until now. Looks like there's a lot of demand to for chemists or at least chem graduates, but as of the moment I'm not so sure that I'm up to the task. I've been considering simple office-related, computer-related, or even call center jobs. Some tutoring or teaching jobs as well. The old folks said okay, but also reminded me not to forget my major. They told me I must take the chem licensure board exam eventually.

I just hope more than one of these companies that I'll be emailing (or will be visiting in person) returns a positive response. I guess I really did have to experience the difficulty of this process firsthand so I'd know what to tell others one day.

On that note, I couldn't help but laugh at the ad one church put up. They're in need of trainees. Priests and laymen who could go to faraway provinces. They'd preach and generally carry out the ministry in these far-flung regions.

I guess you could say that there were available missionary positions.

If Jabba the Hutt can find and stay with a significant other, then I fear that I'm running out of excuses. Must find happy ending in the near to mid future.

One current pet peeve: Iori.

Especially, those few "special" people who pull random Ya Otome's from the blue and fourteen times out of ten end up getting blocked or whooshing, and get raped for the mistake. C'mon, man! It's not hard to go low B-> (far C) or C to f+A or even just a damned Scum Gale to combo into the damn thing.

Seeing a LOT of bootleg stickers of him at the bookstores and comic shops at the Mall of Asia didn't help at all.

*I went there for the first time yesterday. The complex was fantastic. Fully furnished bookstores, department stores, appliance shops, and record bars. Better stocked and better armed than most other Philippine malls I've gone to, by far.

It was great on the whole (in spite of the three Starbucks I counted, I jokingly told ix_ and neo).

It would have been even better if the arcades (and more importantly, the arcade goers) didn't suck.

I'm still surprised at the fact that I'm now a graduate.

In all, I'm glad Saturday came and went. Graduation was really, really shitty. I don't like really huge crowds or needlessly showy and long-winded ceremonies. My foot ached, and Seven or so hours to go through all 1,500+ graduates. Three hours standing up. A short power outage mid-ceremony, and the general crush and stress of the crowd and the in-traffic campus was horrible. And then I arrived home to a banquet, where I had to address and was forced to be nice to relatives (the who-are-only-kind-to-me-on-special-occasions-such-as-this types) and the little monsters who suddenly infested my grandparents house their kids.

Seeing this shortly after made it all better though:

Best laugh I've had all month.

Silly me. I forgot about my ATM account where I deposited some of the earnings from my temp job. I just had the defective card replaced the other week. Turns out I do have sufficient cash after all.

I'm a proud owner of a SOTA Cammy figurine now.

Excuse me. adoisaldsadkjhgladakjhdakjhg;ajdkgdjhgajfsljkda

It's all so euphoric. Just might start the year on the right foot this way. Happy new year in advance, folks.

Beach (Paradise Island Resort) was good. White sand, satisfying food, cool and clean water, and a small aviary.

---
Late, but whatever.

I never believed that Madden was that huge till I watched some of the programming of one of the local cable networks. Jack TV carried some G4TTV stuff. I stumbled upon one show that was dedicated solely to Madden and the tournaments revolving around it.

And damn did it draw crowds. My father has an understanding and appreciation of it (having spent his graduate years of 1986-1990 in Colorado and thus supporting the Elway-era Denver Broncos up until '98), but I never did. I still sort of view it as armored rugby. So yeah, despite popularity of things like the Super Bowl, seeing such popularity for such a specific franchise was a bit of a surprise.

I wonder if fighters will get such exposure in the coming years? Or have they already, outside Evo or internet geek bastions such as SRK/Orochinagi/TZ? I'd sure like to see the day that it does, as I do believe the genre brings more to the table than an ornate sports sim.

---
Man, I wish SNK would make better memory card icons. KOF:MI's is okay I guess (chibi Lien) but KOF:NW, KOF 2002, and SvC's icons are just the game's logo superimposed on a rotating sphere. How plain and dull.

[mood | :D]

Finally here at my parents. Dad surprised me by showing me the new 41-inch Sony whatsitsname TV and entertainment showcase that he had set up in the living room. I thought the visuals looked a little funny, but the giant speakers and the sound output were superb.

Just a week before Christmas and I still have a lot of errands to do. My kid sister is starting high school (as the Philippines has no middle school, it's straight to HS from grade school) this June (and classes start in June and end in March-April here). Mom said that I should go to some high schools tomorrow so I could ask for application forms.

Ah, sis. It seemed only yesterday that she was in the crib. A shame that she won't go to the same science high school that I did, but mom said she wasn't as inclined toward the sciences despite being an above average student.

Still tired from the trip. In fact I feel asleep when I got home, and missed lunch. At least I've hooked up the PS2 to the smaller TV. See you later.

Mom and sis left for Manila last Thursday. Sis is now at my grandparents and mom's on her way back to Australia (after finishing some business in Japan from Jan.-Mar.) to finish her doctorate.

Dad and I went to this park earlier today. It was quite relaxing. The air was cool, greenery everywhere, the food was superb. The jogging trail also made for good exercise. Dad has pictures so I'll try and post them here when he does get them developed.

[mood | bored]

One of the local cable channels altered its primetime programming a bit. The new primetime line up is named "Jack TV", and it's obviously action/comedy/crass themed. So far, the only things in the lineup that interest me are South Park, Chappelle, and WWE shows*. The other stuff seems quite blah or horrible (MAD TV, Blue Collar TV, Trigger Happy TV, Stripperella, Drawn Together, various gag and sketch shows) by comparison.

*edit- apparently they'll air Family Guy as well. Yay

Beach was good, I had a good swim. The resort was also half-park, with birds of every sort (even peacocks and ostriches). A shame the cellphone cam wasn't working. I didn't see hot hot women anyway.

-
Before bedtime, I also had the chance to read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (book 5 to those who don't follow the series) before bedtime. My sister had been a fan on the series for the longest time, and so I had the chance to read all five books.

To this day, it still amuses me that Dudley, Harry's cousin, is taking up boxing (whether coincidental or not).

Dudley: Gutter trash! You have no dignity!

Harry: Play time is over, Muggle! *MvC2 Magneto quasi-infinites*

That, and the fact that the authoritarian, falsely-sweet, over-scrutinizing Dolores Umbridge does reflect more than a few of my high school teachers, and my old high school principal. "Dolores" means "sorrow" in Spanish, if I'm not mistaken. How apt.

Well, I arrived at around 4:30 in the afternoon yesterday. Plane was delayed like you wouldn't believe. It turned out that President Arroyo returned from Rome and so they had to delay the outgoing flights in order to secure the airport.

Cable TV (at last), A better computer, a library of VCDs and DVDs to explore, beaches to go to, malls to ...uh, mall-rat, and all three RS games at my disposal. Looks like I'm going to have a great stay.
